Case Study: Trusted Foundry Program Support
Challenge:
The Defense Science Board raised serious concerns about protecting mission-critical defense microelectronics from tampering or poor manufacturing processes. U.S. Government, under the auspices of the National Security Agency (NSA) and the Department of Defense, took positive steps to address semiconductor security issues identified by the Defense Science Board. The Trusted Foundry Program was created in 2004 to guarantee the U.S. defense community an assured source for development, design, production and support of advanced microelectronic devices; free from any concern about tampering.
Solution:
DBS supports the DOD Trusted Foundry Program Manager by developing communications products and channels, creating business plans, and conducting issue specific research and analysis.
Results:
The requirement for Trusted Defense Systems, covering semiconductors and microelectronics, became part of US Public Law 110-417 in October 2008. DBS’s work with the Trusted Foundry program continues.
